Thanksgiving

Today is a very special day for Margot and us! After 431 days, Margot has now been with us longer than she was in her Social Welfare Institute in China. We've seen many positive changes in her over the last couple of weeks and we attribute them to her feeling more and more comfortable with us and her home. She is such a happy girl who loves to laugh, sing, yell and jump and she is starting to share that personality with the rest of the world.  We can't wait to see what's next for Margot Songmei!

Our New Cleaning Lady.

She's pretty good!

New (Old) Videos!

Ever since Margot started walking on her own, our time is no longer ours!  She is sooooooo busy, which means we are as well.  She is doing great and we are getting ready to celebrate our one year anniversary with her!  These are a few videos from this summer that I never found time to share.  Enjoy!

Margot - Then and Now

Somehow I don't think this video was ever posted.  What a difference 6 months makes!

This is her a couple of weeks ago in her squeeky shoes!

6 Months Together

Yesterday was our 6 month anniversary with Margot!  I can't believe we've been together that long!

With the weather getting nicer, we were finally able to take her to the park by our house.  She really enjoyed her first ride on the swing, but wasn't too interested in the rest of the playground equipment.  She's still doing lots of walking with our help but just won't let go!  She is 1 month into her physical therapy for her eating delays and we are working on getting her to eat more solid foods.  Next week she has her "Early On" assessment by KRESA.  If she qualifies we will get more help with her walking, talking and playing.   Can't wait to see what they have to say!

New Margs Photos!

I've had these photos uploaded and ready to go for almost 2 weeks, but the last month with Margs has been our most difficult.  She started having some major sleep issues and was waking up anywhere from 1am to 5am and wanting to stay up for a few hours and cry, eat, play or all of the above.  Needless to say we were exhausted and confused!  I've since been reading any toddler sleep book I can get my hands on and hopefully we are back on track.  Now if we can just get naptime back on schedule!
Margot has also made some great progress in these last few weeks and we think that might have been part of the issue.  She is walking with our assistance and is almost running as well, just waiting for her to let go and take off on her own!  She is still doing her baby babble but has added the letters Y, L & O to it, so it sounds like she is attempting to yodel with her Yoliolios and Yeeeeeeees.  We've also been trying to teach her to clap her hands.  Whenever Margot hears applause on the radio or tv, it upsets her and she starts to cry so clapping when she does something good was confusing for her.  When she does clap she looks at us like "Why am I doing this?  What's so great about it?"  It's cute nonethless!

I call this one "The Bib Bandit"!  She loves to wear her bib pretty much all day and when she gets tired or stressed she sucks her thumb and touches the tag on the bib.

Just because it's Monday...

Chris headed out to Vegas today for the Consumer Electronics Show to work with his old Audio Advisor buddies.  Margot and I are holding down the fort here at home.  Thought I would post a few photos for him and all of you to enjoy!

She just started pushing this thing back and forth on her own last week!

Standing at her music play table from Uncle Rob, Aunt Denise and Cousin Carly.
Actually held herself up on her own for a while!

This outfit is CES approved!

Margot on the move!

I see tap dancing lessons in our future!

One of Margot's baby shower gifts, making her giggle!

Par-Tay!

Yeah, I did it, I bought her a cake!  Maybe we went overboard on this whole half birthday thing, but now that we've had Margot for a while we realized that she never got any of the cake we sent to her in China for her 1 year birthday.  There's just no way she would have let them put that in her mouth, so who knows, maybe they tried, but I'm sure she wasn't having it!  I hope the nannies enjoyed it!

I think she was a lot more interested this time!  Chocolate & Peanut Butter Ice Cream Cake!

Call me Cake Face!

If only she would put those fingers in her mouth!  We are hoping she will start feeding herself soon!

18 Months Old!

Today, Margot is 1 1/2 years old and our 4 month anniversary together is just around the corner.  I'm sure as we are together longer I will stop keeping track of every significant day, but for now I'm enjoying the passing of time.  Margot has grown and changed so much in this short time.  When we first got her she had only been drinking from a bottle and had no interest in any other foods, baby or adult.  She could crawl but wasn't really interested to do so.  Some adoption forums talk about children regressing somewhat back to infancy in the first few month and I think she did a bit.

She is adding more and more soft foods to her repertoire, still loves peanut butter, really likes toddler yogurt, mashed potatoes and potato soup, will tolerate some baby food and eat cheerios with me as long as they are a bit mushy.  Still working on that whole "chewing" thing!  I think that it has helped that we try to eat in front of her all the time and share as many foods with her as possible - not sure if she ever saw the nannies eat, as she fought being fed with a spoon for a long time.

In the last couple of weeks she has really started to army crawl with some conviction!  She loves electronics, so if you open your laptop or touch a remote control she will be on you in seconds!  She is sliding off of my lap after bottle time into a standing position on the floor and walking with our assistance.  I think she will probably take some real steps by herself in the next few weeks!  As for talking it's still baby talk, lots of "gullys" and "gehs" and "gahs".  She says something that sounds a bit like "dada", but I'm hoping for a clear "mama" to be her first real word!

As for nighttime, after the first painful weeks of being home, we moved the extra mattress in her room and split up sleeping duties with her.  Both our social worker and pediatrician have approved and feel that this will only help with bonding and attachment.  So far it has worked well with Chris taking the early shift (since he works so early in the morning and goes to bed early as well) and then me taking over when I get home from work around midnight.  I'd like to open up the crib into a bed and see if she will spend naptime in there soon, but not sure when that will happen.  We've recently been letting her put herself to sleep for naptime and bedtime and she plays around for a while but seems content to finally fall asleep on her own.

We are just amazed by her every day.  She is so beautiful, adorable, funny and smart.  Chris and I are constantly remarking on how crazy we are for her and I'm so happy that we both feel like she is the perfect child for us.  On Margot's side she seems to like us equally and doesn't seem to favor one of us over the other, but does seem most happy when we are all together!

She is always somewhat interested when I get the camera out, but can't seem to keep her thumb out of her mouth!

Christmas Day

Everyone has been very eager to know how Margot's first Christmas went.
I'm happy to say that WE had a great time, as for her she still has no idea what was going on.
She was a little interested in the tree, but never messed with it.  I think she watched the lights on it a few times and never even tried to touch the presents underneath!  We had to open her presents for her as she doesn't understand the whole wrapped present thing, but she has been very excited to play with all the wonderful toys she received.  As you can see from the following photos, Christmas morning was best spent sucking her thumb while we did all the work!

Chris and Margot just before we left for my mom's house.  The coat is a very fancy gift from her
Great-Grandma Adele and has red velour roses down the front and a matching hat.  Underneath is a black velvet jumper from Grandma Janet.  I think her expression says it all "Why am I wearing a dress for 2 days in a row?"
